DIRECTIONS

Please note that our regional postcode '11150' covers a much larger area than in other countries, including the town of Vejer itself at the top of a steep hill some 5km away (as the crow flies) as well as a number of local villages in all directions.  This post code reference alone in a sat nav device will not get you to the finca, so please refer to our directions below.
For those who use the new app 'What 3 Words', we have provided these for both the  main and Casitas entrance gates in the directions:  https://what3words.com/
  • LOCAL

VEJER DE LA FRONTERA (5 km, approx 10 minutes drive from town)*

    Sat Nav: Latitude = 36.2353, Longitude = -5.9169

what3words for entrance gates to finca:

    Cortijo & Alcornoque:  ///dangling.cherry.livers

    Casitas:  ///landscape.goofing.frock

1a. Driving South down the new (N340) A48 from Cadiz and Chiclana*, the road becomes the original N340 road just after the first main turning up to Vejer de la Frontera on the right.  Continue on past Vejer (do not go up into the town itself), past Hotel El Paso, over the bridge and through the little gorge - for another 5km until you reach the turning Km #41 on the right, marked for our village of  'El Soto'.

1b.  Driving North along the N340 from Algeciras and Tarifa *, towards Cadiz, via Vejer and Chiclana you will pass the gates to Montenmedio Golf & Country Club on the left, at Km #41.5 – just 500m before the turning to El Soto, also on the left hand side.

    2.  After 150m on this road past the Sunshine Tour grounds, turn left again into the village itself - which will be marked with signs to Pacquito and Kurupay.

    3. Follow the road through the village and past Venta Pacquito, bearing right at the Cafe Kurupay onto the hard dirt road for another 500m.  Finca El Sueño is at No 64 - at the very end of the village, with two pairs of clearly marked gates with sensor lights set into a white wall on the right hand side.

The gates will be closed, but not locked, due to occasional passing livestock - so please open and drive through, remembering to close the gates behind you!

    4. For guests of Pimienta, Mimosa & Almendra Casitas, please take the second pair of gates, named 'Las Casitas' (the first are named 'Cortijo del Sueño) and park inside close to your property – Pimienta to the right,  Mimosa to the left and Almendra straight ahead by the small Casa del Pozo/Casitas laundry room (although please note if a guest in Mimosa requires wider access for a mobility vehicle we may require Almendra to swap)

For guests of the main Cortijo del Sueño & Alcornoque Casita, please take the first pair of gates named ‘Cortijo del Sueño’.  The Cortijo del Sueño is at the bottom of the drive and you can park right in-front of the property or in the private shaded car port nearby, while for Alcornoque follow the road around up left to the far corner to the Casita and its own private parking area.

                                             SHOPPING

ENROUTE:  There is a large Eroski Supermarket just beside this motorway beside the first exit right into the large town of Chiclana de la Frontera, which is a useful place to stop for groceries etc en-route as it opens all day Monday to Saturday.  Otherwise, there are plenty of local smaller shops nearby, although these do not open in the afternoons between 14:00-18:00 or all day Sundays & holidays.  However, some supermarkets in Barbate are now opening for a few hours on Sunday during the Summer months, so we will update if this continues throughout the year.

LOCAL:  We have found the Aldi just as you enter Barbate to offer a good range of quality items, including fresh breads, pastries etc, vegan and vegetarian options - while there are also daily markets in both Vejer and Barbate with a range of fresh fish and vegetable stalls, as well as a range of shops including local bakeries and an excellent delicatessan up in Vejer.  A local butcher 'Carnicas El Alcazari' located in La Muela (enroute to Patria) sells retinto meat, raised in the wild.  Open Mon - Fri & Sat mornings.  carnicaselalcazar.com/

We also have a local bakery offering house-to house delivery of fresh bread & local pastries coming past the front gates of the estate, which you can purchase from if you wish - daily at around 09:30 (except Sundays).   He will hoot as he comes through the village so you will have some notice - but he cannot wait, so please wait outside the front gates with your money in hand!

  • GIBRALTAR - airport

90 km, approx 1.5 hour drive  (+ border queue for cars if relevant)

    Sat Nav: Latitude = 36.2353, Longitude = -5.9169

what3words for entrance gates to finca:

    Cortijo & Alcornoque:  ///dangling.cherry.livers

    Casitas:  ///landscape.goofing.frock

Note: road junctions are marked by their kilometre, so easy to see where you are and exactly how far you need to go!

Most car hire companies are now located just across the border - to allow for faster collection & returns, as Customs queues for vehicles can take up to 45 minutes during busier times.  Simply turn right outside the tiny airport and walk 100m on foot over the border – follow further directions from the car hire company.

    1.  By car, after crossing the border, turn right and after a short distance go 360' round the roundabout, effectively doubling back on yourself.  Drive back along the seafront and through La Linea, signed towards San Roque and Algeciras - going straight over all the roundabouts, before heading inland to join the motorway.

    2.  When you reach the main E5/N340 motorway between Malaga (East) and Cadiz (West), turn left/West towards Algeciras* and continue on over the Straits of Gibraltar (with amazing views across to Morocco & Africa), past Tarifa and on towards Cadiz.

    ------------------------------

There is also an alternative route which we use ourselves, as it avoids the traffic around the busy port town of Algeciras and also takes you inland through the spectacular Parque Natural de los Alcornocales (one of the last ancient oak forest in Europe).  However, it is probably best driven in daylight hours - both to appreciate the views and also because the road is rather twisty for the distance between the motorway and the town of Benalup.

    a.  Before you reach Algeciras and shortly after the large Carrefour supermarket on the left hand side, you will see the A381 signed to Los Barrios, Medina Sidonia & Jerez junction on the the right (currently junction 110B).  Drive on this new motorway North until the A5203 junction for Benalup (junction 66) on the right, which you will need to take.  (If you miss this turning, you can take the next turning further up beside Alcala de los Gazules and follow the signs to Benalup).

    b. When you reach Benalup, drive up through the town and take the turning for the A5205 at the top roundabout to Vejer de la Frontera.   At the end of this road, you will reach a T-junction.  Turn left and you will soon find yourself at another T-junction at the foot of the hill on which Vejer sits.  (This is the original N340 road.)

    c.  Turn left again and carry on over the small bridge and through the gorge for about 3km until you see the Km #41 sign on the right, marked to our village of 'El Soto'.

    --------------------------------

    3. Approximately 5 kms before Vejer de la Frontera, you will pass the gates for Montenmedio Country Club at Km #42.5 on the left.  Shortly afterwards, take the second turning on the left at Km #41 - towards the village of 'El Soto'.   After 150m on this road past the Sunshine Tour grounds, turn left again into the village itself - which will be marked with signs to Pacquito and Kurupay.

    5. For guests of Pimienta, Mimosa & Almendra Casitas, please take the second pair of gates, named 'Las Casitas' (the first are named ´Cortijo del Sueño) and park inside close to your property – Pimienta to the right,  Mimosa to the left and Almendra straight ahead by the small Casa del Pozo/Casitas laundry room (although please note if a guest in Mimosa requires  wider access for a mobility vehicle we may require you to swap).

  • JEREZ - airport & train

70 km, approx 1.2 hour drive

    Sat Nav: Latitude = 36.2353, Longitude = -5.9169

what3words for entrance gates to finca:

    Cortijo & Alcornoque:  ///dangling.cherry.livers

    Casitas:  ///landscape.goofing.frock

Train: Jerez has two stations - one right beside the airport and the other in the centre of the town just one stop further.  If you are flying or arriving by train and hiring a car, it is therefore easier to collect and return from the airport for both options - as there are more providers and located outside of town so quicker to travel.

Note: road junctions are marked by their kilometre, so easy to see where you are and exactly how far you need to go!

    1. Jerez Airport and train station are located just north of the town, with access only from the A4/A480 road.  Therefore, when you exit on this follow the South-bound road direction towards Cadiz and Algeciras.

    2. At the roundabout, you will either need to choose between taking the A4 dual carriageway non toll road which loops above Jerez itself, or the new faster E5/AP4 dual carriage way below it - which bypasses the traffic jams of Jerez, El Puerto de Santa Maria and Puerto Real, towards Chiclana de la Frontera and Tarifa.  For the toll road, just turn left on the N349 and follow the signs - but if you miss this turning, you can turn left at the next roundabout instead!

    3. Near and just before Cádiz, turn off the toll road at Km 101 and onto the A48/E5 signed towards Algericas, via (San Fernando), Chiclana and Vejer de la Frontera - do not go on into Cádiz itself!  The A48 is the new 'Costa de la Luz' motorway (dual carriageway) which replaces and runs alongside the original smaller coastal N340 road, so just keep on this until you reach Vejer de la Frontera (up on the hill to the right above you as you drive past).

    4. Continue past Vejer for about 45 km along the A48/E5, the road becomes the original N340 road again just after the first main turning to Vejer on the right.  Continue on past Vejer de la Frontera (do not go up into the town itself), past Hotel El Paso, over the bridge and through the little gorge, for another 3km until you reach the turning Km #41 on the right, marked for our village of  'El Soto'.

    5. Take this turning and after 150m on this road and passing the Sunshine Tour grounds on each each, turn left into the village itself - which will be marked with signs to Venta Pacquito and Cafe Kurupay (do not drive straight on).

                                             SHOPPING

ENROUTE:  There is a large 'Family Cash' supermarket just beside this motorway beside the first exit right into the large town of Chiclana de la Frontera, which is a useful place to stop for groceries etc en-route as it opens all day Monday to Saturday.  Otherwise, there are plenty of local smaller shops nearby, although these do not open in the afternoons between 14:00-18:00 or all day Sundays & holidays.  However, some supermarkets including Barbate are now opening for a few hours on Sunday during the Summer months, so we will update if this continues throughout the year.

    1. Leave Malaga Airport, turn right onto N340, direction Marbella, Estepona, Algeciras, Tarifa, Vejer de la Frontera, (Cádiz, Jerez de la Frontera.) Do NOT drive into Malaga town.

    2. When the N340 becomes the AP-7 toll road (peaje), it is advised to take this (cost approx. E12) to avoid long delays in towns and road constructions.

    3. Pass the towns of Estepona, * Algeciras and then round the 'Straits of Gibraltar' (with amazing views across to Morocco & Africa), past Tarifa on towards Cadiz.

  • SEVILLA - airport & train

150 km, approx 1.75 hour drive

    (Sat Nav: Latitude = 36.2353, Longitude = -5.9169)

what3words for entrance gates to finca:

    Cortijo & Alcornoque:  ///dangling.cherry.livers

    Casitas:  ///landscape.goofing.frock

Note: road junctions are marked by their kilometre, so easy to see where you are and exactly how far you need to go!

    1.  Follow the signs from airport or station Santa Justa to the main city ring road, the SE30.  (The  'Kansas City' road right beside the train station leads directly to it, also signed to the airport.) Once on the ring road, follow it until you are due South of the city and reach the Southbound Junctions 8 and 9 for the main roads down to Jerez and further South towards Cádiz, Algericas, Chiclana de la Frontera, Vejer de la Frontera and Tarifa.

    2.  You will then need to choose either the NIV/E5 dual carriageway road (non-toll) at Junction 8 or the AP4/E5 (toll) motorway at Junction 9B.  (However, there is also an easy connection between these two roads a short distance further down, so you can take either option to get off the ring road as quickly as possible or make your decision a few minutes later.)  The toll road (5 euros) is both faster and easier, as it bypasses the traffic jams of Jerez, El Puerto de Santa Maria and Puerto Real.

    * Bedlinen and bathroom towels (seasonal): these include seaonal linen (eg cotton sheets in Summer, duvets in Winter) and bathroom towels for use inside the property only - which are changed weekly and washed offsite by our laundry company to ensure the highest standard of hygiene.  Please note that we do not provide any pool/beach towels, blankets/throws for picnics or the beach, playmats for babies etc - but these can be purchased in supermarkets if guests do not bring their own.

    * Household products: our cleaning company provide some products on arrival - including hand soap for kitchen & bathroom, washing-up liquid & dishwasher tablets, liners in kitchen and bathroom rubbish bins, two toilet rolls per bathroom and tea towels.   Guests will therefore have to purchase any additional or extra items they may require during their stay eg extra toilet rolls, bin bags.

     * Kitchen cupboard items: due to Covid, any unused kitchen cupboard items such as teabags, coffee, salt & pepper, herbs & spices, sugar, oil & vinegar etc had to be removed after each booking.  However, they are now again being left for guests to continue to use if they wish (subject to availabilty).  Therefore, if you prefer not to use them please do not throw away but leave for the next booking.  Gracias!

Due to a very dry Winter, we also currently recommend guests buy bottled water to drink, particularly for younger children and elderly.  Our tap water remains safe to use for cooking, washing fruit and vegetables, brushing teeth etc.

    What is not included:

    * All personal products, such as washing eg body wash, shampoo, sunscreen and insect repellents etc - as well as clothes washing etc.

    * electrical items eg plug adaptors, chargers, printer for plane tickets

    * items for both the swimming pool and beaches including towels, sun shades, beach chairs, toys etc.  However, if any beach items are left by previous guests and are in good safe condition, they will be left in either the Cortijo or Casitas laundry room for guests to borrow and return.

    --------------

GENERAL INFORMATION - more details are given in the CASA INFO page.

WiFi & Mobile : offered (via password ) using guests' own laptop or phone with WiFi capability, with boosters in each property  - but please note that this is a free service on the understanding that there is limited local bandwidth and seasonal fluctuations (eg weather conditions and number of local users), which are therefore outside of our control.  However, local mobile coverage is excellent for those using their own data.

Fans & Screens:  During the Summer months, insect screens are fitted into all windows and patio doors (& Cortijo bedrooms) – along with electric fans provided in bedrooms and main living area(s).  Plug-ins and coils for insects are available at all local supermarkets for additional protection, although insect repellent is advisable when out and about for personal use - particularly around dusk.

Housekeeping:  As well as a full clean on changeovers between bookings, the property will also be given a light general clean (usually each week during the main season), which includes a full change of bedlinen and bathroom towels – unless stated otherwise.  Please note that this does not include washing up, emptying rubbish and recycling etc (please reach the Casa notes for information about the property).

Personal Laundry: The Casitas shared Laundry Room (the Casa del Pozo/well house) contains a washing machine, rinsing sink, iron & ironing board for personal laundry only, as well as mops & bucket – with a drying rack & pegs on each patio.  Both the Cortijo and Alcornoque each have their own washing machine, iron and ironing board.  (Please note that tumble driers are only provided for use during prolonged wetter periods during Winter months of December to March.)

  • Shopping

En Route:   The local and airport directions include the location of the large supermarket en-route, which is open from 09:00/10:00 to 21:00/22:00 Monday to Saturday with a wide range of groceries & beach items.  Please note that local shops and supermarkets are usually closed between 14:00-18:00 daily and all day Sundays (some are starting to open all day, others open again from 18:00-20:00 Mon-Sat, while just a few shops may open on Sundays for limited hours in August only), with less fresh produce on Saturday afternoons.  We therefore strongly advise guests to purchase groceries for the first weekend on the Saturday before 21:00 - either enroute from the airport or previous location, or go straight back out to Barbate once they have dropped off passengers and luggage at the property on arrival.

Local:  There are plenty of shops, smaller supermarkets and daily markets in our local towns of Vejer and Barbate about 10 minutes drive away - with several new supermarkets located just beside the road as you enter Barbate on the road from Barca de Vejer, which are the most popular and easiest to get to. The Aldi just in Barbate offers a good range of quality items, including fresh breads & pastries, vegan and vegetarian options - while there are also daily markets in both Vejer and Barbate with a range of fresh fish and vegetable stalls, as well as a range of shops including local bakeries and an excellent delicatessan up in Vejer.

A local butcher 'Carnicas El Alcazari' located in La Muela (enroute to Patria) sells retinto meat, raised in the wild.  Open Mon - Fri & Sat mornings.

Late/Sunday Arrival - ‘Venta Barca’ de Vejer at the base of Vejer hill on the N340 (opposite Hotel El Paso) is just a 5 minute drive, which opens on late every day including Sunday and stocks basic items such as bread, milk etc - as does another tiny venta situated on the corner of the next turning right to Medina Sidonia.  In Santa Lucia (the following turning right), you will find a tiny shop also now open on Sundays which sells lovely local produce including bread, cheeses, honey & fresh vegetables - with a little venta nearby that is great for breakfast.

There are always plenty of restaurants and other places to eat and drink open every day until very late, including Sundays & holidays.  Shops attached to petrol stations on the main roads are open till late and stock  useful basics.
